Using a webcam attached to a computer, it can add pop-up type features to a magazine, catalog, etc.

Apparently they can track the object using it’s dimensions and accurately put 3D images onto the object when viewed on the computer screen.

The main image attached to this post is a sample of what it might look like if you held the IKEA catalog up to the system.

Imagine how a magazine like Plane & Pilot could use this, or more accurately their advertisers. Cessna could have 3D models pop up of their newest model airplanes or cockpit avionics, Bose could show a 3D version of the Bose X Headsets, etc.

More photos and even a youtube video showcase of it below.

The airplanes that Google uses, a 757, a 767, and two Gulfstream V’s, are not actually operated directly by Google, but by another company named H211, LLC.

All of these airplanes are partially used by NASA and have permission to operate out of a NASA airport that private jets are not usually allowed to operate from.

I don’t believe the Google founders themselves are actually pilots, but I have heard that Google CEO Eric Schmidt is an avid pilot, so maybe he is looking to have some fun with a fighter jet.

September 11th had another successful, albeit interesting, broadcast of The 25Zulu Show.

In addition to several stories of our experiences on September 11th, 2001 (I was 14 miles from the Pentagon and scheduled to fly out of Dulles that day) we had some great guests and launched our Aviation Trivia contest with some great prizes.

We had been experiencing some internet issues at the studio earlier in the day, and those would end up eventually haunting us during the last 15 minutes of the show.

We were joined by two National Flight Instructors of the Year: Max Trescott (2008) and Rich Stowell (2006).

25Zulu Show listeners should be familiar with Rich Stowell as each show Rich provides us with a new Flying Tip.

Most aviators are also familiar with the name Max Trescott as he has become a well known instructor in the Glass Cockpit arena with several books and online training offerings.

Congratulations to all of the Trivia Winners and unfortuneatly we lost our connection when we started talking to Alan Armstrong and before we could give away the grand prize of the night, a Brightline Bags Flight Bag. (You can check out my review of the bag here.)

The show is now available for download from our Archives page or via iTunes.

I’m not sure what kind of impact this will have on the Skycatcher project as Cessna was planning on delivering the first customer airplane during the first half of 2009.

I know a flight school near us has ordered around 6 of these guys to conduct flight training in, so here is hoping they can figure out what may have happened and correct it swiftly.
