Medicals Extended for Under 40
July 24, 2008 by Paul

For those of us under 40, the FAA has just announced that it will be extending third and first class medical expiration dates.
Previously, third class medicals expired in 36 Months for those under 40, and starting July 24th, 2008, they will now expire in 60 months. First class medicals will expire in 12 months, instead of 6 months, for those under 40.
All previously issued medicals are grandfathered under this new rule, including those that have expired.
I found this great little document that covers the new rules pretty well and it’s available at the bottom of this post. AOPA has suggested that all of us with previously issued medicals carry this document along with our medicals as the FAA will not be issuing new certificates for us who qualify with the updated expiration dates.
